Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Designed by former NASA astronaut Dr. Karen Nyberg, this inspiring fabric range celebrates space exploration, creativity, and global connection. With nearly 30 years of experience in human spaceflight, Karen travelled to space aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 2008 and later spent 166 days living and working on the International Space Station.
A lifelong maker, Karen brought her love of stitching into orbit, famously sewing a small toy dinosaur for her son using recycled fabric from Russian cosmonaut food containers. She also helped launch a worldwide community quilt project from space, inviting makers across the globe to create star themed quilt blocks. The result was more than 2,400 squares stitched into 28 remarkable quilts, symbolising unity across countries and cultures.
Now retired from NASA and focused on sustainability and conservation, Karen’s designs reflect wonder, innovation, and the beauty of our interconnected world. This collection captures that same spirit, perfect for patchwork, quilting, and meaningful handmade projects.
